If you’re wondering when you should take newborn photos, I’m here to help. As a Bismarck newborn photographer, I’ve been honored to take newborn photos for hundreds of families. I’d love to answer this question for you and help you plan your dream newborn photo session.
I’m so glad you’re planning on taking professional newborn photos, and I can say that this is something you’ll never regret doing. Your baby is only so tiny and new for a short time; your professional artwork from this session will preserve these memories for you to cherish forever.
When Do You Take Newborn Photos?
Typically, we capture newborn photos within two weeks from birth. During this time, your sweet, sleepy newborn will sleep during their session. As a professionally trained newborn photographer, your baby’s safety and comfort are my top priority during the session. At this age, we can safely pose them while keeping them comfortable.
With that said, you’ll want to schedule your newborn photoshoot with me as soon as you feel comfortable during your pregnancy. I typically recommend reaching out to me by the second trimester. I know that feels crazy, but reaching out early has benefits. As a full-service newborn photographer, I can only take on a limited number of newborn sessions each month. Once I’m booked, I’m booked. Reaching out early ensures my availability for you. If you’re reading this and your baby is due very soon or already born, send me a message here.
If you’re worried about a professional newborn photoshoot so soon after you give birth, let me reassure you that my newborn sessions are stress-free and tailored to new families.
Why Full-Service Newborn Photography
Studio – Studio newborn photography is as easy as it gets. Instead of worrying about cleaning your house, all you have to do is come to the clean, prepared studio. I’ll have everything set up and waiting for your family, including your dress!)
Wardrobe for Mom – My client wardrobe includes many beautiful dresses for mom. Skip the stress of shopping and come shop my closet. You’ll stop by the studio before your baby is born to choose your outfit. On the day of the session, it’ll be clean and waiting for you.
Baby-Led Sessions – I block off four hours for my newborn sessions. I don’t expect the actual session to take that long, but I plan on 2-3 hours for the photoshoot so we can take breaks for the baby. We can pause for feeds, diaper changes, and snuggles. I’m a mom, too, so I totally get and expect breaks! The additional time I block off is for setting up the studio with your custom backdrop and props as well as taking everything down.
Props and Accessories – Dreaming of a certain newborn photography look or backdrop? Let’s make it happen. I have many headbands, bonnets, sleepy hats, and wraps; we have them all! We have everything for your newborn portrait session. Tell me what you’re dreaming of, and I’ll make it come true. Need ideas? I can offer some if you need it.
Easy Image Reveal and Ordering – Enjoy more baby snuggles, and let me handle your image reveal and product ordering. We’ll meet to look at all your beautiful images together. We’ll narrow it down to your favorite images and mock up your artwork designs. I’ll handle everything from there.
Professional Artwork – You’ll treasure this artwork for the rest of your life and hopefully pass these portraits down to your children. Ensure this artwork will stand the test of time by using a professional printer.
